Local bands are being urged to come forward to play in the newly restored bandstand in Victoria Gardens as part of a UK-wide National Bandstand Marathon. The community event is due to take place on Sunday 25th September where bands from all over the country play in local bandstands simultaneously. It has been organised by Superact, who work with amateurs and professionals to bring music of all genres to communities across the UK. The project is part of the Cultural Olympiad and is designed to give everyone in the UK a chance to be part of London 2012 and inspire creativity across all forms of culture, especially among young people. Neath Port Talbot Council Leader Ali Thomas said: "I would encourage all musicians out there to take part in this event which aims to bring communities together. Now that the bandstand in Victoria Gardens has been restored to its former glory, I can't think of a better place for local talent to perform in this way."
